Sovena Red
Below are a whole buncha pages from SOVENA RED, a lighthearted superhero fairytale by Rod Hannah. An entire first issue (with interior colors by Paul Little) is in the can and being showed off at cons. I had a lot of fun working on this, so hopefully these are characters I can play with again in the future.
Previous posts showed other pages, but the gallery has it all in order.

woow! Nice art!
Damn. SR12 looks awesome. Not too hot on the cover, but the other stuff’s just ridiculously fun to look at. I especially love your facial expressions; not too many artists can do them quite as well as you do.
Page 9: the shadow treatment on the hooded kid is awesome!..that’s what im talking about..honestly speaking if you could create a variety of shadow treatments like the one on the hood rather than your standard shadow treatments (the black polygon shapes with some hatching on the edges)then it’d be awesome..your storytelling is awesome and impressive..but i think your lines are too uniform it’s like watching a cartoon show..although that’s not a bad thing but i think your art would look more awesome if there’s another approach at inking your stuff..well eduardo risso’s work also sports the same uniform lines but i think it’s the style in drawing..well everthing’s a work in progress or it must be my own personal bias..but the pages are superb..i loik it!.
Thanks bai! I’m making a conscious effort to play with different hatching styles. Currently studying Jerome Opena’s stuff. The guy is an animal.
of course mein freund..anything that i can contribute to your evolution to stardom and artistic nirvana.
“The pages look ridiculously awesome all lined up like that, don’t they?” I would have to agree with that person.. who shall remain unnamed for now.
You. Silence is golden.
I jumped here from the SDR blog. I didn’t know you’re also an awesome artist, John! These pages look fun I can start at them for hours. Will this be locally available?
Thanks, Markus! I doubt this will be in local circulation. It’s a pitch I put together with a friend based in the US. If it gets picked up, then who knows… maybe we’ll see more of it here
