Thor Sequentials (Part 1)

I didn’t bother writing a plot for this, since it’s pretty much going to be an action sequence anyway. Sorta. Not much going on in this first half, but I wanted to stretch some camera-placement muscles. I was listening to comic podcasts a lot while I was making these, and I forget who said it — either Hitch or Quitely —  but someone said it’s a good idea to do one difficult or new thing with every new page. It can be a camera angle, a blur effect, a shading style, a background element, whatever. As long as you try one thing new each time. S’great advice.

That’s it from me for now. As always, comments and criticisms are wildly welcome. (Oh but also, I added a Twitter feed on the right sidebar, waaaay under all the standard links and stuff. Check it out and add me up if you’re on there. Laters.)

cool dragon or whatever creature that is on the last page, very detailed…lens flare effect on panel one really adds depth..ur cool in my book john…hehhe

  • johnamor

Hey thanks. I had a really strong urge not to include the lens flare coz I know its a no-no to use ‘em, but I couldn’t resist.

  • Sully

    I didn’t like the lens flare… ._.

For some reason, your first page reminds me of Darrow. I dunno why. ‘Tis good, I declare.

  • johnamor

    Hard Boiled Darrow?

    yani,
nice one! one weird observation… 1st and last page… last panel of 1st page and middle panel of 3rd page… the somewhat look the same?

  • johnamor

Yeah. Need to work on my panel variation. Good eye, man. Thanks.

  • vemp

    You little shit.

    FUCKING DRAGON ORCS HELL YEAH!!

Also, on page 3, 2nd panel kinda repeats what the 1st panel is trying to say. Try switching the 1st and 2nd panel in photoshop and see what happens.

  • johnamor

Looks better. Or I could actually get rid of panel 2 altogether. S’useless.

New art and you didn’t tell me? How dare you? HOW BLOODY DARE YOU? You know I need your art to survive! So keep us updated and draw more!

Also, you should be hired by Marvel for… uhm, drawing everything.

  • johnamor

LOL… I’d be happy with, like, Howard the Duck.

I really dig the storytelling here. You’re really taking the time to pace out the reveals and remind us that Asgard is AWESOME in the purest sense of the word. I really the very Speilberg-ian “Signifigant Looks” and pauses before the close up of the riders.

From a critique standpoint, I’d like to see you tackle the issue of depth without greytones… strictly with your linework.

  • johnamor

I’m so totally working on just forgetting greytones altogether. They’re becoming a bit of a crutch.
